Oscar Wilde, British playwright, commented that it looked like someone had glued pepper boxes all over it. The Water Tower’s castle-like architecture, designed by William W. Boyington, inspired the exterior of a restaurant chain.


The city is a haven for architecture enthusiasts. One of the best ways to enjoy the variety of building types is by a cruise on the river sponsored by the Chicago Architecture Foundation. The squirt was then pointed toward the inferno and the plunger pushed down to eject the water.
