New Release: A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold Watch – Incorporating a Highly Desired Alloy into a Classic Timepiece
The classic A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 watch is one of the brand's most iconic timepieces, while the Lange 1 Daymatic is its automatic version, first unveiled in 2010. Compared to the more famous manual-winding version, the Lange 1 Daymatic's dial faces in the opposite direction, thus its place in the German watchmaker's catalog is far less prominent. In its latest 2025 release, A. Lange & Söhne has reimagined this highly sought-after timepiece in its signature honey gold alloy.
As you might expect, this watch, crafted with a proprietary 18K gold formula, the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold (model 320.050), will be produced as a limited edition, with only 250 pieces produced, each individually numbered. The Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold is essentially a fresh interpretation of an existing model, but the Daymatic movement itself is even more special, as it is far rarer than the standard manual-winding Lange 1. Besides housing an automatic movement, the dial layout of the Lange 1 Daymatic also differs drastically from the classic Lange 1, almost entirely inverted: the off-center hour and minute hands are moved to the right side of the dial, while the power reserve indicator on the other side is replaced by a retrograde day display.
In addition to being harder than standard 18K gold, Lange's honeygold alloy possesses a unique warm hue, slightly different from traditional yellow or rose gold. The German brand uses it exclusively for special editions and exclusive models, with almost all models released in small, limited quantities. Due to the widespread popularity of the standard manual-winding Lange 1, the Daymatic is often considered a more understated timepiece, its inverted dial layout more closely resembling that of the Lange 1 perpetual calendar. A. Lange & Söhne's honey gold timepieces have historically sold out quickly upon release. For example, at the 2024 Geneva Watch & Wonders exhibition, the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold “Lumen” watch was launched, and all 50 limited-edition pieces were sold to collectors before the brand's first day of events concluded.
This A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold watch is crafted from brushed and polished 18K honey gold, maintaining A. Lange's signature craftsmanship. The case is 39.5 mm in diameter and 10.4 mm thick, with large sapphire crystal glass on the bezel and case back. Like other models in the Lange 1 Daymatic collection, this latest honey gold version features a crown at 3 o'clock and a large pusher on the opposite side of the case for adjusting the date display. Below the date pusher is a small recessed pusher for adjusting the day of the week. While solid gold dress watches aren't typically water-resistant, the Lange 1 Daymatic boasts 30 meters of water resistance, protecting it from accidental splashes. It also features a brown, hand-stitched alligator leather strap with an 18K honey gold buckle that complements the case perfectly.
The dial layout of this Lange 1 Daymatic honey gold watch is similar to other Daymatic models, with the time display on the right side and Lange's signature large date disc in the upper left corner. As you'd expect, Lange has perfectly integrated the background color of the double date disc with the dial, crafted from 925 sterling silver and finished in a rich chocolate brown. Unlike the manual-winding Lange 1 watches, which feature power reserve indicators on the hour and minute hands, the Lange 1 Daymatic uses a retrograde day display instead, its curved design located on the outer edge of the dial, echoing the aesthetic style of the manual-winding Lange 1.
Through the large sapphire crystal case back of the Lange 1 Daymatic honey gold watch, the exquisite workings of the Lange L021.1 automatic movement can be clearly admired. This movement vibrates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and boasts a 50-hour power reserve. As always, this 67-jewel L021.1 movement comprises 426 parts, meticulously finished to Lange's stringent standards, with the balance bridge adorned with exquisite hand-engraving. The automatic rotor of the L021.1 movement is also a masterpiece, consisting of a 950 platinum weight connected to a 22K gold structure engraved with the brand logo. The gold portion of the rotor extends to its central mounting point, forming four slender spokes. Besides its elegant appearance, the rotor's delicate shape is specially designed to cushion the heavy precious metal structure upon impact, thus preventing stress on the movement.
Like almost all watches produced by A. Lange & Söhne, the Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold is indeed a masterpiece.
